New London Fabulous

Happy Street by Yinka Ilori (Image: Luke O’Donovan)

Very very late to this, but I recently discovered the New London Fabulous design movement, which came to prominence post the first lockdown of 2020. (Write ups here and here.) Interesting to me, as Happy Street, illustrated above, is not far from where I live.

Anyway, all this colour sparked a sonnet:

New London Fabulous

Stroll around our conurbations.
The city is all glass and grey.
This Wen needs bright interventions,
Kodachrome deployed in playful ways.
All hail New London Fabulous,
A design language that’s tremendous.
Pattern, ornament drive this look,
Jovially flooding every nook.
Polychromatic formations,
Dotty houses and happy streets,
Drenched in Pan’s tones. How sensual, sweet
This rainbow of saturation.
Less is more? Let us not be coy.
Living in colour is a joy.
